Lesson 5
- Opening your mouth Opening your mouth creates room for you to sing louder and creates less tension. Tension is huge in changing your voice, so making sure your jaw is relaxed and more open makes it easier for singing. Here's an example of how you should sing, with an open and relaxed mouth, and some ways you can incorporate it into your singing. - Singing Posture How you stand and or your posture is going to change the sound of your singing, but more importantly, without a good "stance," it is going to make singing loud, lower, and or higher more difficult. Shoulders should be relaxed, back straight, and ideally, one foot should be slightly in front of the other. Your head (at least for now) should be straight forward. That's where you might need to tilt your head for a specific sound or pitch, but for now, just focus on looking forward. It is going to help release tension from your neck muscles and allow your larynx (voice box) to open up, making singing easier. In summary, good posture, relaxed neck + shoulder muscles, head straight, and one foot in front for balance is the proper technique for singing without strain and not injure/hurt yourself. |
