Lesson 7 - Chest Voice
Chest voice is the term vocalists use to define what your larynx is doing and where the vibrations feel like they are coming from. So if you put your hand on your chest and start talking you should feel the vibrations in your chest. It's important to note that the true vocal sound is not coming from your chest but your larynx. What is chest voice? Chest voice is the lower part of your range that gives the power and support of your voice it's also the building block for mixed voice which we'll talk about in a later lesson. Chest voice is the lowest part of your voice to the "bridge" of your voice. So for guys your vocal range more specifically chest voice will start around E2 to G2, girls are F3-to C4. Chest voice is also where most people sing and training this part of the voice will strengthen your stamina. How to improve? Practice breathing techniques while singing low so for example put you hand on your chest and sing "I love to sing" while making sure you are breathing properly. Breathing and chest voice at (least for me) go hand and hand in practice and the more breath support you have the better your chest voice sounds. |
