Lesson 8 - Mixed Voice Mixed voice is what vocalists call when you sing with pharyngeal resonance. Pharyngeal resonance is a fancy term for feeling that "buzz" in and around your nose. Just like chest voice, you feel the resonance in your chest, and head resonance in your head. To sing in the middle of both your chest and your head voice, you need to add pharyngeal resonance. This, all combined, is what we mean when we say the word mixed voice. How do you sing with a mixed voice? First, we have to figure out what it feels like. Try singing a nasally "nay" For Phil Wickham's song Battle Belongs. Meaning follow the melody line and instead of singing the words, you sing "nay" Specifically, so when I fight, I'll fight on my knees." After doing this a few times, try singing half of it with the "nay," then sing with the lyrics. Next, sing the whole chorus with the lyrics, keeping in mind the way it sounded when singing the "nay. |
